World Peace Choral Festival

worldpeace festivalVienna, Austria
22nd – 25th July 2015

The mission of the festival is to promote world peace and to find a way to establish music as the universal language which everybody is able to speak and to understand regardless of his origin and cultural background. The World Peace Choral Festival is the only choral festival cooperation with Vienna Boys’ Choir and the only choral festival which is annually invited to perform at a UN headquarters.

Founded in 2010 the festival since then follows the idea of promoting intercultural dialogue and cultural exchange between the different nations. The repertoire of the participating choirs covers classical and folk’s music, sacral music and contemporary music as well.

Since the festival’s start choirs from Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Poland, Malaysia, from the US, Canada, from China, Estonia, Georgia, Russia, Rumania and from many other countries have already participated in the World Peace Choral Festival.

Competition

The World Peace Choral Festival offers two different categories choirs can participate in: the Competition Category and the Celebration Category. Choirs choosing the Competition Category will perform in front of an internationally renowned jury which consists of conductors, music professors and experts on choral music. The choirs will be divided into four different age groups. Each choir should perform about three songs while the whole performance is not longer than 15 minutes. One of these three songs will be given by the festival organizer. The awarding ceremony will be held at the Gala Concerts at Vienna Concert Hall. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize will be awarded in each age category.

Celebration

Choirs who decide in favour of Celebration get the chance to take part in special master classes conducted by music teachers of the Vienna Boys’ Choir. The choristers will receive individual voice trainings and special techniques of choral singing. Choirs can bring their own material they want to work on during the workshop. Alternatively they can practice the common songs which will be provided by the festival organizer. The master classes will be held at Palais Augarten where the Vienna Boys’ Choir lives and works.

Common Events

Regardless of the category a choir has chosen he is always welcome to take part in the common events of the festival. The Opening Ceremony will be held right in the city center just to give a first great impression of Vienna. Some of Vienna’s finest churches and concert halls will serve as venue for the Voices for Peace Concerts. The idea of these concerts is to raise our voices together for the securing of world peace. The Music without Borders Concerts aim at bringing choral music to people who normally do not have much access to it such as residents of retirement homes or asylum seekers. Every year the UN Headquarters of Vienna invites the choirs of the World Peace Choral Festival to perform a Peace Concert. The BBQ event will give all choirs the chance to meet each other beyond the stage, to make new friends and to establish contacts for a future cooperation. The Gala Concerts at Vienna Concert Hall will mark the highlight of the festival. Each choir will perform on one of Europe’s most outstanding stages in front of an international audience.
